“It came out from the tide Mam - it did, it did!”
“Oh Dafydd behave” Mam said, scolding her kid.
“But it scared me”, moaned Dafydd, “What a horrible sight.
With its eyes looking at me I had such a fright,
And its hands - they were hairy and big as a tree.
Then it reached out and grunted and walked straight for me.”
‘Oh Dafyyd, come on now” tutted Mam as she closed
Her eyes, with the sun beating down on her nose.
‘It was huge, Mam, and ugly - with feet like two boats,
And its skin was as thick as both of our coats,
And it smelled like it had never washed in its life,
And it staggered and splattered like a drunken man’s wife.”
‘Oh Dafydd, calm down now’, Mam said laughing inside.
“But Mam, I am frightened - it’s down by the tide!
And it’s turning and pointing and walking this way.
I’m terrified Mam, I don’t want us to stay.
I can see its big teeth Mam, there’s hair on its crown.
It’s probably eaten a human straight down!
It’s angry and nasty - just look at its face.
It’ll get us, we’ll vanish with never a trace.
It’s closer Mam, hurry we’ll have to escape.
It’s ever so massive and looks like an ape.”
‘Oh Dafyyd, behave now you’re acting so silly.
You shouldn’t go saying those things willy-nilly.
It isn’t a monster, it’ll do you no harm,
It won’t eat your leg, your head or your arm.
It’s friendly not ugly and though it’s not slim,
It’s only your Dad, coming out from a swim.
