Christmas Competition
There’s a competition afoot at Christmas
To see who lights up their house best
There’s chaps on ladders stringing lights
And tentatively throwing a switch to test
There’s white lights like strings of icicles
A blow-up Father Christmas on the lawn
Bambi watching from the porch roof
On windows nativity scenes are drawn
Parents and kids tour the neighbourhood
To view these exciting Christmas scenes
With ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ and fun in their eyes
Children start Christmas full of beans
However, come 12th night.
Ladders re-emerge, brown boxes are filled
Santa is deflated and Bambi captured
Till next year, when the kids will once more be thrilled
