The Older Lady Golfer
The older lady playing golf endures those aches and pains.
Finding the time for a four-hour round, even when it rains.
Great is the pull of a bump and run, the backswing and a chip.
She addresses the ball with a 3 wood and an interlocking grip.
Halfway down the fairway now with a dogleg and water ahead.
Taking a 6 iron she hits the ball with the middle of the club head.
Those aches and pains have eased, she’s on the fringe of the green.
A pitching wedge, it’s in the hole and she feels like a golfing queen.
She’s leading at the last hole, but her tee shot finds the rough.
Taking a 9 iron, she strikes the ball firmly, but is it enough?
It is. The ball is a yard from the pin and it’s almost a gimme.
No yips, it’s in the middle of the hole, she does a little shimmy.
Who says an older lady with aches and pains can’t make her mark?
Celebrating at the 19th hole, other players raise a glass and remark,
‘You were brilliant today and showed us all how to play the game.’
It’s just a pity that many lady golfers don’t receive as much acclaim.
