With long cables they were a break though.
At one end was a giant video player.
At the other end was you!

Miracles to the homes of the masses.
Sit in your chair and just push a button.
You’d enjoy boasting to your neighbours.
Parading round like lamb dressed as mutton.

Pause, play, volume up, volume down.
With no need to get off your bum.
Change channels, switch the thing off,
All with just the press of your thumb.

Prior to this you’d press buttons on the TV.
Three channels, three buttons was all we had.
You Dad would sit watching the box.
And he’d say, “Turn the TV over lad.”

Nowadays you can adjust the TV on your phone.
Set the controls to record a special show.
Set a series link too if you want.
Make it got very fast or even extremely slow

Life has become fixated on convenience.
The aim is for us to do as little as we can.
Perhaps before long we’ll all have a personal robot
That will even exercise for us – maybe that’s the plan!
